ABOUT YMCA
The Young Men's Christian Association ("YMCA" or "the Y") is a international, chiefly nonsectarian and apolitical, community movement with a particular highlighting on society expansion and young people. It uses a holistic advance to individual and societal growth encircling religious, scholarly and corporeal methods. This approach is denoted by the inverse red triangle used by YMCAs around the world representing the YMCA mission of structuring a healthy body character and consciousness . The movement has rendered pioneering services in the spheres of Education, Youth work, Camping, Hostels, co-operative endeavors and Rural Reconstruction work. Its members form the World Alliance of YMCAs, an organization that has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

It is considered with an open membership policy, involving people irrespective of faith as well as age, sex, race and social condition. This commitment has also led the YMCA work for social change, addressing the root causes of issues and problems faced by people. In addition to recreation, sports and educational activities as well as the front-line services to refugees and displaced people, in many countries the YMCA is also engaged in the formation of movements for social change. It is involved in peoples’ issues through community organizing and programmes for empowering the people. Issues such as racism, youth at risk, and unemployment is creatively addressed by many YMCAs in response to growing fundamentalism, consumerism and fragmentation. The YMCA, in keeping with its spiritual basis, continues to explore and renew spirituality relevant to the times. Each YMCA is committed to serve its own community with specific emphasis to the needs of the young people. The necessary finances for the various projects are found through income generating projects and support from the public.
