 Community Centers

We have four community centers actively functioning now viz. Thottumughom, Keezhmad, Edayappuram and Nazareth colony. In fact it was a priority concern of the project to identify the marginalized people of the area and work with them to help improve their life situation. Programs under the DEEP project of the Region are also effectively carried out in these centers.

Keezhmad - A programme for the rural youth managed with the support of the local community. Major activities include a rural library and TV Room regular indoor and outdoor games and Peoples empowerment and other socio-economic development programmes. The peoples committee elected from among the community themselves looks after the management of the centre. With the initiative of the project, school uniforms and educational aids were distributed to the most deserving children of the area. Periodicals and Newspapers are provided by the project regularly.

Thottumughom: The Thottumughom centre continues to run a tailoring and embroidery unit for rural women. At present 35 trainees are undergoing training in two batches. The project also helps the trained girls to acquire own machines through local village Panchayat and DRDA under the self- employment scheme for women. A new fashion maker machine was also purchased during the reporting year.

Edayappuram: The community center attached to Edayappuram Government School and the Children's library was functioned meaningfully during the period.

Mahatma Gandhi Library: We provided News paper and periodicals to the library run by Keezhmadu Panchayath for SC/ST Colony.

The project could facilitate venue for the various training of the Government, NGOs, Political meeting, spiritual programmes and programmes of the YMCA.
