MAVELIKARA PROJECT

The YMCA Boys Home, Mavelikara stands out as a monument of our concern for the underprivileged children. The home was established during 1989 as a project of the National Council of YMCAs of India, in the property donated by the Emanuel Agathi Mandiram, Mavelikara. Being a project initiated by the YMCA South West India Region, the home received unblemished support and patronage from the YMCAs in the Region all through these years and our success was entirely due to it. The project functioned meaningfully catering to the physical, mental, spiritual and social needs of the children and has now developed as a model YMCA Boys home with the help of our supporters and partners in service.

Inmates:

At present we have 10 boys belonging to the age group of 7 to 15 as inmates. In fact, the home is very selective in adopting children and only the most deserving cases are considered. Priority was given to orphans/semi-orphans and the children were admitted on the basis of the interview conducted for the purpose every year.

Sponsors/Supporters:

M/s Patengemeinshaft , Germany for the poor and destitute children continued to support us by providing bi-monthly grants for the basic sustenance of the children. We have received general support from a host of well-wishers.

Activities/Programmes

Besides ensuring proper functioning of the home, occasional programmes for and involving the children have been arranged aiming at their overall development. Special events like picnics, Camps etc. were held every year. Equal importance was given to extra curricular activities as well as regular studies of the boys. The boys continued to attend the Sunday school classes in the nearby churches. Special occasions like Christmas, onam etc were celebrated and members of the committee as well as the local YMCA leaders joined with the children in celebrating the event.

A management committee under the leadership of Mr. T. C. Mathai is managing the affairs of the home. Mr. Jacob Mathew continued as warden of the home.
