TSUNAMI RESPONSE PROGRAMME
After emergency relief activities and the Construction of the 26 houses for the Tsunami victims in Kollam District, we could move to the second phase of the Tsunami response programme during the reporting period.
 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Rented building is made available at Ayiramthengu for starting the programmes
The center and its premises are using for meeting of the community groups.
Two community leaders planning meetings for finalizing the Vocational Training activities and Children's camp were held in the centre and organizing committees were formed for the conduct of the programmes.
Training of the Children's camp teachers held in the centre.
Two social workers are appointed for coordinating community organization activities
Land is purchased at Ayiramthengu for constructing the permanent community center.
A socio - Economic survey was conducted in the project area.
CHILDREN IN CRISIS PROGRAMME
10 UNI -Y (University YMCA) members of the Region volunteered to take leadership for the conduct of the Children's Camp
2 YMCA youth leaders were sent for advanced camp counselors training conducted by the World Vision.
20 youth volunteers were selected from the community and provided intensive training to work as teachers in the camp.
An organizing committee was formed by the mobilizing leaders from the community.
Scientifically prepared syllabus for building self esteem and confidence is following in the camp.
The youth volunteers from the community will be given opportunity to participate in the Regional UNI-Y Camp during the year.
10 best performing children from the camp will be given opportunity for participating in the Regional HI-Y Camp.
 VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR ALTERNATIVE EMPLOYEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Two community level meetings were held for prioritizing the Vocational Training programmes to be conducted in the project.
Bodhana, a church based NGO is being consulted for conducting Training programmes.
Trainees for the training programmes were selected by the peoples committee itself.
Training for paper bag making and soap product making are arranged at Adined and Ayiramthengu
Separate organizing committee was formed for conducting both training programmers.
86 cents of Land is purchased for starting a VTC (YMCA Human Resource Development Centre) at Ayiramthngu. An architect is appointed for designing the centre. Foundation stone was laid on 1st April 2007 by the National General Secretary Mr. T. Thomas.
Plans are under way for starting other training programmers.
 HEALTH AND HYGIENE
The Project could respond meaningfully to the action against the spreading of the Chickungunia in Alleppey district.
YMCAs and youth volunteers were involved in the programme
Fogging Machines and Sprayers were provided to the YMCAs in the coastal zone to undertake ongoing actions
The state government specially appreciated the efforts of the YMCA in addressing issue of the Chikungunia.
