The YMCA South West India (Kerala) Region was formed in the year 1954. Now it has grown into the biggest Region in the National Council of YMCA’s of India represents the movement at the state and focuses on coordinating more than 430 YMCA units in the state of Kerala. 204 YMCAs in the Region are having own land building. The Kerala YMCAs contributed greatly to the development of sports youth welfare in the state. It provides hostel and recreation facilities for young people in almost all the urban and semi-urban areas in the state. The Kerala YMCAs initiated a number of development projects in the state such as Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Integrated Tribal Development Project, Development education and empowering of people, Boys Homes, School for the disabled, Summer Schools, Camp Center etc. The YMCA Campsites at Alwaye and Vythiri are playing a conspicuous role in building leaders at various levels. The head quarters of the YMCA South West India Region situates in the YMCA Camp Centre, Alwaye. Kerala is one of the ’10 Paradises found on Earth’ by the National Geographical traveler for its diverse geography and overwhelming greenery.
The YMCA South West India Region is constructing the International Centre under the Millennium Project of the National Council of YMCAs of India and is dedicated to150 th Anniversary of the World YMCA
